How to start a Derby glass collection

1 MIN READ
In this story

A meaningful year. A beautiful glass. A story to keep.

Start with a year that means something

Your first Derby glass does not need to be the oldest or hardest to find. Start with a birth year, a first race-day party, or a favorite family memory. A personal connection makes a collection more rewarding than simply filling a shelf.

Look closely before you buy

Check the year, printed design, and seller’s description. Ask about chips, cracks, fading, and whether photographs show the actual glass. A commemorative glass is a keepsake; do not assume it was used at the track or has investment value.

Build a simple collection record

Record the year, seller, purchase date, condition, and the story behind each glass. Photograph both sides. Display pieces securely, away from shelf edges and direct sunlight, and follow the seller’s care instructions.

Find your first piece

A Taste of Kentucky lists official Kentucky Derby mint julep glasses across multiple years. Check the product page for the specific years currently available. Choose a meaningful year before expanding into a full run.
